How we make money
UK Home Energy Guide is a free resource. We earn revenue through affiliate partnerships — when you click certain links on our site and make a purchase, booking, or enquiry, we may earn a commission from the provider.
This never affects the price you pay. The provider pays us, not you. It's the same price whether you come through our site or go directly.
How this affects what you see
We want to be completely transparent about this:
- We show providers we have affiliate relationships with. They are clearly marked on the site. When you click through, we may earn a commission.
- We also show non-affiliate options. Every comparison section includes free, government-backed, or non-commercial options — like MCS Installer Finder, Energy Saving Trust, TrustMark, and GOV.UK grant pages. We don't earn anything from these links. We include them because they're genuinely useful.
- Provider listings are selected based on relevance, Trustpilot rating (4★+ minimum), breadth of service, and availability of free surveys or quotes. We always show non-commercial options (e.g. GOV.UK, MCS, Energy Saving Trust) alongside any commercial providers.
- We never hide better options to push an affiliate. If a free government scheme (like the Great British Insulation Scheme) is the best option for your situation, we say so — even though we don't earn from it.
Our affiliate partnerships
We work with the following types of providers:
Solar panel installers
Companies that supply and install solar PV systems for UK homes. Typically offer free surveys and quotes.
Heat pump installers
MCS-certified installers of air source and ground source heat pumps. Many help you claim the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.
EPC assessors
Accredited energy assessors who can carry out an Energy Performance Certificate assessment of your home.
Energy comparison
We link to MoneySupermarket for energy tariff comparison. They are a regulated comparison service.
Some partnerships are managed through the Awin affiliate network. Others are direct partnerships with providers.
How to spot affiliate links
- Affiliate links are marked with
rel="sponsored"in the HTML (for search engines) - Provider cards include a disclosure line: “We may earn a commission”
- Non-affiliate links (MCS, government sites, Energy Saving Trust) are clearly distinct
Our editorial independence
No provider has editorial control over our content. Our guides, calculations, and recommendations are based on:
- Government data (EPC records, Ofgem rates, PVGIS solar data)
- Published industry standards (COP ratings, insulation U-values)
- Official grant schemes and eligibility criteria
We don't let providers review or approve our content before publication. If a provider's product isn't right for your situation, we say so.
